about
"Funky T-Shirt" is a playful pop song inspired by the ongoing fashion of screen-printed t-shirts. It's about the connections we make with people whose cute or funny t-shirt designs make us smile.
(However, this song is not encouraging the purchasing of t-shirts. It is merely about the observation of a trend!).
The song teams sweet vocals, lush harmonies, honky-tonk piano, cheeky clarinet and earthy bass with a funky combination of Motown-esque drumkit rhythms and a Middle Eastern folk dance beat. Stylistically, the song is inspired by the sweet playfulness of Regina Spektor's "Dance Anthem of the 80s", the uninhibited happiness of "Jungle Drum" by Emiliana Torrini, and the get-down-and-dirty grooves of early Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder.
lyrics
You know, I think you’re cooler
And that, you’ve got a sense of humour
When I read what it says
Printed on your threads
And I know, you think, I’m cuter (cuter)
And that I must be a shaker and a mover
When you see what I’ve got
Printed on my

For the funkiest shirt that they can find

Or shows Hendrix on the front
And the girls, they like to be cheeky (cheeky)
With tees that state they’re attention-seeking
It’s essential fashion lit

sweet, sophisticated folk pop,
combining her feminine voice with lush harmonies and world music influences.
At times playful and fun, other times poetic and ethereal, her music could be likened to that of Russian-born Regina Spektor and Iceland’s Emiliana Torrini....more
